Expensive fresh water fish
Last saturday me and a group of friends went for dinner at a sea food restaurant at Sunway, diagonally opposite Sunway Pyramid, the shop name is Teluk Gong Seafood Restaurant. Everything were just ok.. until we paid the bill and we found that the fish that we have cost RM150!!! wow!! it is just a fresh water fish and why it cost so much? I don't remember the name of the fish but it is belongs to cat fish family.
The restaurant environment is not good, too much of echo, cannot enjoy the meal and chatting. Food? just ok ok la.. we just felt that we are the "water fish".. haha...
p/s: do not mixed up with those seafood restaurants at Teluk Gong, Klang. They are real good, nice and reasonable price seafood restaurant.

Richie,
I guess the place is at Sunway Mentari area. Sunway & PJ area are "water fish" areas. The RM150 must be inclusive of the rental charges. A whole fish now easily fetches a price like RM70 (depending on weight) if it is served at restaurants and this price is for Cheras area. So, for RM150 at Sunway, probably it may be considered moderate.

i can only think of two catfish that costs that much... it is either 1. River Patin or if not 2. Pak So Kong or ikan Baung.
River patin can cost about RM120/kg. Used to stay in Pahang where these fish were caught from the rivers.
However, it seems pretty unscrupulous if they do not tell you that the fish costs that much before ordering especially for a restaurant in Klang Valley. Usually they either put the price in the menu or on the tanks if live fish are served.

yeehun,
eeerr.. not at the Sunway Mentari area. The most expensive sea fish that i ever see at KK is about RM80 per KG (with cook) and the restaurant i went at KK city center is for tourist so it is famous for expensive food. If I go to other restaurant, it will be cheaper.. that is why i dun understand why the price is so high for fresh water fish.
quikie,
You are rite, i like the idea of showing the price tag of the fish or they at least must inform us the price of the fish. In KK all prices are shown at the fish tanks. Maybe next time when ordering any seafood must check the price first..
